Fat Quarter Purse Tutorial
My first Spoonflower fat quarter arrived today! I was really pleased that my first fabric turned out really lovely. I didn't have any problems with color, and the quality of the fabric is very nice.
They recommend you order swatches before you buy a lot of fabric, but I hated to have to wait all that time to see my fabric, and then only have a swatch - so I went with a fat quarter. In the meantime, I tried to figure out what to do with my first self-designed fabric, and I came up with a purse pattern that uses precisely one fat quarter. It's a sling purse, with zipper, lining, and an adjustable strap.
So, I made my pattern into a little pdf tutorial (another first for me!) for any of you wondering what to do with your fat quarters. The tutorial is now available for a small fee in my etsy shop.
Update - the pattern has been reformatted to a four page pdf, so it prints nicely on regular paper.
Made one? I'd love to see: Add it to the wewilsons pattern pool.

This is adorable! I'll probably have to make one. And I've been avoiding Spoonflower like the plague but I'll probably get caught in its grasp at one time or another. Thanks for sharing. You are so talented!
Ah!! I saw this on the Spoonflower Flickr group--it is so adorable! And you are so generous to share your pattern with the world. I can't wait to try it...
This is completely fabulous! I too have only ordered little fat quarters and this purse is the perfect project for them! Thanks so much for the share!

Love the tutorial. Your fabrics are wonderful.
I am still trying to figure out how to make the patterns to upload to spoonflower. I am some great ideas in my head and I have even drawn some designs but I cant figure how to get them on my computer.
I am still working on it and since we got hit with an Ice storm I will have lots of time to figure it out.
Thanks for the tutorial and the Idea of getting a Fat quarter instead of a swatch.
thank you! i just bought a fat quarter with the intent of making a bag, and LOVED your pattern. =)
Beautiful bag -- thank you so much for sharing the pattern!!!

This is such a great bag! I love that it's made from a fat quarter, as that is how I hoard most of my fabrics.
I blogged your tutorial from Craft Gossip sewing blog:

This is fantastic! Only one problem...your file share service won't let me download the pattern (says you've exceeded your bandwidth today - probably because everyone wants to download it!)...so if you would be so lovely to email me a copy, I would greatly appreciate it!
What a cute bag! I like the fabric too. Very nice! You are so talented!
Great design, and I too love the fat quarter design. But I wasn't able to download the pdf file either for your tutorial. Will it still be available?
Would love to have your tutorial on the fat quarter purse. I too commit to smaller amounts of fabric and would love to use this on my fat quarter stash. Great purse and love the fabric.

I'd love to have it too! crissy_hartl@yahoo.com. Thanks :)
Oh man! I stayed up till midnight to try and get this tutorial but it still says to try again tomorrow. I love this purse!
Sorry, Lisa. The host is on west coast time, I think.
Fabulous tute - thank you!
I want to try the tutorial so bad, but when I try to order, it says it is no longer available even though your listing says there are two left. Is there a chance you might put it up for sale again.
There should be three separate listings available in the shop. If one says it's sold out, go to the shop page and select another listing. I'm trying to keep it stocked!
How difficult do you think it would be to turn this into a reversible bag? You'd probably have to lose the adjustable strap, but that would also eliminate the need for D-rings. Oh, and a double sided zipper, of course. Just a thought...
Great bag, great tutorial. I had to make one. Take a look: http://kindershoponline.blogspot.com/2009/02/fat-quarter-purse.html
I love the bag. I popped over to your Etsy and didn't see the pattern listed. Any chance you'll list more? I ordered a bunch of fat quarters and was looking for fun things to do with them and this bag is perfect.
ooo... the bag is great!
my roommate bought a panda bag!
She is just THRILLED with it and can’t put it down.
