I'm thrilled to be participating in the Kid's Crafternoon blog party! By now you already know, Kathreen put together the Crafternoon series, and the first two books Kids' Crafternoon Sewing
and Kids' Crafternoon Papercraft
are just out! Each book is full of craft projects that kids can do mostly unassisted in an afternoon, hence Kid's Crafternoon! I contributed a little Pencil Pouch project to the Sewing book, and I adore how they styled in in the book. Isn't this cool?
The sewing book is full of such clever ideas, perfect for kids in the 7-12 range. My girls are a bit younger, but I knew they'd enjoy making one of the projects from the Papercraft
book with me. We decided to try the Paper Raindrops Curtain by the lovely Khali Whatley. My girls love to hang out the window to wave goodbye and hello to anyone coming or going, so I knew they'd really dig this. 
I love the sweetly illustrated instructions, and printed templates are always excellent, but they are especially good for kid's projects. It was super easy to jump right into the project. I did all the cutting, but the girls picked out the colors and helped me glue them together. We were all tickled with how cool it turned out, and even the little one pronounced it "beautiful!" The girls eagerly waited for Daddy to come home so that they could wave at them through the clouds!

While my preference is for the sewing book, if I was to spend a crafternoon with my friend's 3 kids (they love crafts, and are particularly fond of paper crafts), I'd have to have the paper craft book. So, the selfish me wants the sewing book, but the kind, caring friendly me wants the paper craft book ;)

Yay! You're blogging again! I am glad you got a break, but missed your posts. Z just sat down at my sewing machine 2 days ago, ran a square of fabric under the presser foot (yes, it's unplugged) and said, "I'm making a zebra costume!" Then she had to measure. "22," she said. I think we would enjoy the book (though I know anyone who wins will, also) Hope you are all doing well!

My 6 yr old daughter has recently joined my passion for sewing! We've made friday night "Craft Night" at our house (while the boys are off playing video games :o) Sophia and I would LOVE to win a copy of Crafternoon Sewing for Craft Night!

The sewing book would be great since my little crafter just started sewing. But would have fun with paper too. I would spend my afternoon with my two fav crafters 6 and 9 in fact I think I will make time for that this weekend.

I love both the books - but the ipod monster cozy in the sewing book is a perfect project for my two favorite crafters -- my kids!!

ReplyDeleteI would love both! The sewing one especially because it has your project in it. I do a weekly project with a boys and girls club, though, and sewing doesn't work with the bigger group so well. So, I have to choose the paper one...think I'll go ahead and nab that project you did with your girls. That would work well for them.
ReplyDeleteI'd love the Crafternoon Papercraft book. Elizabeth will be 9 months old in a couple days, so it would be awhile before we get to use it. But I remember how much I loved working with paper when I was younger and I know Elizabeth will enjoy it when she's a bit older :)i
ReplyDeleteThese books look so great! I love that you got to be featured in one of them. I'd love the sewing one since I'm slowly teaching myself to sew and want to make cute stuff for little Owen. The papercraft book looks great, too, and I'm sure it'll come in handy when Owen's old enough to start homseschooling or when/if I go back to teaching at our church's preschool.

ReplyDeleteI would love the papercraft book, but would selfishly love more the sewing book. The hubs is a youth minister, so I think it would be fun to have crafty days with the littler youth group members. I also have my sister's crazy fun 3 year old twins to craft with. Of course, with their attention span, the paper one might would be more fun. Thanks for a fun giveaway!

Wow, these both look like so much fun! I really have to lick one, huh? I think my Leela would devour (hopefully not in literal sense) the PaperCraft book and I would love to spend a day crafting with my favorite 4 yr old and her stuffed animal tarsier which now comes everywhere with us. They eat crickets! (she wants everyone to know that)

What a hard choice! I think my kids would get a kick out of the sewing book since they're always trying to "help" me on my projects. :)
